The Greenside Studio offers a specific bespoke provision, a specialist vocational teaching resource. It provides a ‘half-way’ environment between the structures, systems and order of school and life after school. It provides work experience and work-related learning which is not otherwise easily available for young people with severe learning difficulties, including vocational courses designed to develop communication, social interaction and independence skills. The Greenside Studio also offers an excellent resource for the development and practice of functional skills. The Studio provides a real life context where challenging targets can be set. Students are faced with real life situations which gives them the opportunities to adapt and apply their functional skills.
The Greenside Studio offers work experience to students and leavers of Greenside School. Working in the shop they help to serve customers, bag and price up sweets and deliver sweet baskets. They are supported by a team of professionals who guide them through their work experience helping them to engage and learn. This is an invaluable introduction for our young people to the world of work and allows them to make links with the local community and the wider world.
A Living Classroom in the heart of the Communtiy
There are many creative opportunities for our students to explore using the facilities available at the Greenside Studio. As well as painting ceramics, students can use our range of plaster moulds and pouring clay to make the white bisques that we sell for painting in the shop. They can also learn to throw pots on our potter's wheel, make tiles and model their own clay sculptures.
Part of the community
The Greenside Studio acts as a base for our young people to work in the community, interact with the public and find out about local shops and facilities.
They also run a sweet basket venture making up baskets containing 20 bags of sweets, which they take to local mainstream schools, respite homes, day centres, and local shops.
If you would be interested in hosting one of our baskets please contact us.
